رهبری، مفهومی محوری در نظریههای مربوط به عملکرد سازمانهایی مانند مدارس و بوروکراسیهای آموزشی است، اما اخیراً به دلیل کوری جنسیتی، عادتوارههای جنسیتی، پیامدهای تقسیم کار جنسیتی و سلسله مراتبی، در سطوح مختلف، بسیاری از مفاهیم مدیریت آموزشی با دیدگاهها و پرسشهای انتقادی مواجه شده است. این انتقادها بر ادعاهای دانش و رویکردهای پژوهشی پوزیتیویستی است که فرض جهانشمولی تجربه مردانه را به تصویر میکشند. این الگوها در طول دهه 1970 و اوایل دهه 1980 موجب شکلگیری سیاستهای مداخلهگرایانه لیبرال در مورد فرصتهای برابر شده بود. چنین سیاستهایی بر اساس نظریه اجتماعی شدن نقش جنسیتی بنا شده و به دنبال تسهیل پذیرش «نقشهای رهبری توسط زنان» در مدارس بودند تا تعادل جنسیتی عادلانهتری ایجاد کنند؛ اما کاهش زنان در چنین موقعیتهایی در این دوره نشان میدهد که مسئله پیچیدهتر از صرفاً اطلاعات آماری است. این مقاله براساس رویکرد پژوهش نظری با بازسازی مفهوم فمینیستی رهبری آموزشی، موفقیتها و ناکامیهای زنان در این عرصه در مقابله با قدرتهای چندجهته و چندوجهه را مورد بررسی قرار میدهد. این مطالعه، با نگاهی انتقادی به گفتمان زنان در رهبری و مدیریت آموزشی، چارچوبی را برای ذینفعان جهت درک و حمایت از رهبران زن ارائه میدهد. یافتهها، نیاز به سیاستهای هدفمند و تغییرات نهادی برای تقویت برابری جنسیتی در نقشهای رهبری را برجسته میکند.
